Welcome to the MSU Water Summit!

Because water is such a critical resource, water management and education have important ramifications for all Montanans and our economy. It has been more than 10 years since Montana State University conducted a comprehensive study of how we serve the water users of our state through our research, education and outreach efforts. We believe strongly in the power of partnerships and we look forward to the upcoming Water Summit as an excellent opportunity to leverage the knowledge and expertise of numerous stakeholders and effectively broaden our role in the state’s efforts to address both the short and long term water needs of Montana.

Geoff Gamble
Montana State University President

Water is not an abstraction to the MSU community. Difficult questions of water policy, availability and quality are directed at us constantly by our constituents. Many of our graduates wrestle with vexing water issues in their careers. The purpose of the MSU Water Summit is to assess our current way of handling water issues, and identify opportunities for increasing our effectiveness within the mission of the university. Such a brief gathering can only provide a quick snapshot of where we are and need to go. But it should serve as a first step toward coordinated efforts to increase our effectiveness - and better serve the people of Montana - in this most vital of all arenas.
