Tallinn, formerly Reval, is the capital of the Republic of Estonia. Tallinn is a bustling modern city that boasts one of the finest medieval city centers in Europe, carefully restored and maintained. Since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Estonia has assertively addressed its environmental problems, especially pollution of fresh waters and the Baltic Sea.
